Pumori
"Daughter of Everest"
March-April
1998: Outdoor Life Network American
Adventure Productions Roger
Brown and Michael Brown document an
attempt on the northwest ridge of 23,450ft Pumori in Nepal. Lead by Kim
Renyolds and Jim Nowak the team also includes Chris Haaland, Sara
Ballentyne, Rich Cook, Lisa Cook and Alexandra 'Jane' Storm. The expedition
raised $30,000 for "The Friendship House" in Kathmandu. The home
is a safe
heaven for young girls at risk of being sold as slaves.

From the Col we could see out over the
Ronbuk Glacier in Tibet. |

This was the planned route to the top. Chris
Haaland and I spent two days here. The lack of good snow to climb and
illness among team members forced us to end this trip early. |

On the way down, a view toward Chumolungma
(Mount Everest). At the time that I took this photograph I did not know that almost exactly two years
later and again the following year that he would stand on the summit of Mount Everest. What
I did know is that the legendary
mountain
has a powerful draw, a call to adventure, that could not be ignored. |
