Michael Brown: Public Speaker
Serac Adventure Films Founder and President Michael Brown has made films on every continent, scaled Mount Everest four times and made award winning films with some of the most extraordinary people on the planet. Now he is telling these riveting stories as a public speaker.
Michael's presentations explore the allure of risk and consequences when risks don't pay off and ultimately explore why it is that we have to take risks to have meaning in our lives.
"There was one other surprise awaiting those who attended Ignite Boulder 6, and that was the stunning and awe inspiring talk by Michael Brown that bookended the night. His presentation Risk and Reward wasnít humorous or pithy. Instead, he discussed making documentaries in extreme situations. He talked about friends who had died in the process, and people who had given him a new perspective. Unlike other Ignite presentations, the crowd was silent and reverent. I could feel the magic of the moment, and it was not one I had expected... Itís hard to pinpoint what was different with Michaelís talk, but one thing that clearly made a difference was passion. Michael spoke from the heart and was honest... For this, he should be lauded, and I can only hope more people follow in his footsteps."

"Michael Brown presented on his work as an adventure filmmaker both for our evening crowd
of about 200 people and for a local high school filmmaking class. His presentation was filled
with photos and footage interspersed with engaging personal anecdotes. Michaelís presentation style is exceptional; he strikes deep chords with audience members. His accomplishments
(including summiting Everest 4 times, most often behind cameras) are enormous. Yet, he
was able to describe his adventures to us in such a way that we felt a personal connection to
the places and especially the people he encountered. His work with film to showcase personal
stories from remote places is exceptionally effective in bringing the world back to our homes.
With live footage and photos, and even rolling out a 6-foot-long stretch of IMAX film, the
audience walked away understanding more about filmmaking, and the people and images in
front of and behind the camera. In short, it was fascinating and inspiring; a transformative
evening. I would highly recommend having Michael as a guest speaker. His experience, personality and thoughtfulness are rare and welcome."

"In listening to Michael Brown speak one quickly realizes that he truly has been everywhere and done everything! Fantastically engaging and insightful, his passion for the world around him is made obvious through his decorated career in filmmaking."

"We have had the honor of hosting Michael Brown both last year and this coming year at our annual event! Not only do his films make a fabulous contribution to our festival but his participation in the festival truly makes him an honored guest. He's not there to melt into the background, he wants to be a part of the experience and make it meaningful. He realizes that attending an event is more than just a presentation but meeting the people who attend and hearing their stories. His presentation last year on "Adventure Filmmaking" drew a huge crowd at our Activist Center. Everyone was really engaged on learning the skills you need to make an adventure film. Michael is great example of "if you have an idea, make it happen." And that energy transfers to all who meet him."
